Brown Bear, brown bear what do you see? – Felt Board Template

Does you kid has favorite book? Ours is Brown Bear, Brown Bear, what do you see? And we have to read it over and over again. Toddlers love repetition, I understand that, but sometimes I just want to hide it. I know, that would be mean. Instead, I did something creative that occupy my toddler for fair amount of time and it turned out to be fun game while we read. I designed felt board template and made felt animals in same colours.

Brown Bear, Brown Bear, what do you see? – Felt Board Template

We love books. I have read books to my baby when she was only few days old. And we continue to do so every day. She likes to have some books near bed, to read when she wakes up, some in the kitchen for when I cook, and some in her reading spot. That is great because it is so important for kids to grow with books.
As a mom, and grownup, it is hard to read same picture book all the time, over and over again. Is it same with you ?

Instead of complaining one day I came with idea to make something  fun and creative that she will enjoy. Since book Brown Bear, Brown Bear, What Do You See? has such a neat  illustrations I draw all the animals and cut them out from felt. In the beginning they looked good but not quite cute as it was supposed to look.

Then I remembered that I have fabric puff paint that I sometimes use in my quiet books.

After playing a bit with matching colours it looked great. It took around 3-4 hours for puff paint to dry. Waiting is always hardest job for me. Since I loved this felt board project a lot I decided to share felt board template with you.

Felt Board Story – Five Pretty Valentines

Five Pretty Valentines is adorable Felt Board Story with two cute rhymes and free printable template for you to make.

Love should be celebrated every day, not only on Valentine’s day. That is unwritten rule in our home. We always take care one after another, trying to please and do small little things to show how much do we care and love – every day. Even if that means just a hug after a long day. Life is so much easier and nicer that way.
When I was a child Valentine was a special day as it is my mother’s birthday. My brother and I would always do some crafts and give it to her along with a red rose. That was time before internet and we had to rely on our imagination and ideas from school. When I think about it now, how she loved our  DIY gifts, those were nice moments that makes unforgettable memories. For me and for her. I realize that now when I am mom myself.

Over the hills and far away
Mama duck said, “Quack, quack, quack, quack,”
but only four little ducks came waddling back…

One little duck went out one day
Over the hills and far away
Mama duck said, “Quack, quack, quack, quack,”
but no little ducks came waddling back…

No little ducks went out one day
Over the hills and far away
Mama duck said, “Quack, quack, quack, quack,”
and all five ducks came waddling back.

At the beginning place mother duck and all five ducks on the felt board. If you yet don’t have felt board don’t worry, you can easily make one in just five minutes and for just few dollars.  As you sing and come to the part with four ducks, remove one duck from the board. Same thing do when you come to tree, two and one duck. And in the end put back all five ducks.

Felt Board – Five Red Strawberries

There are several versions of this felt board rhyme, like one with apples . We love this one the most since we learned it long time ago on our weekly story time program for kids in library.  It is very easy to make and fun to play.

Download strawberries free pattern  and cut strawberries using red felt. For each you will need two pieces, front and back. Usually I make objects using only one layer but with strawberries I went with two as on front piece I used white embroidery thread for seeds. It is much nicer when you cover back with another piece of felt. Use green felt for stems and glue one stem on each strawberry. You can use hot glue, but carefully with it.

Five Red Strawberries

Five red strawberries, sweet to the core.
Bear came and ate one and then there were four.

Four red strawberries, growing near a tree.
Bear came and ate one and then there were three.

Three red strawberries, for you and you and you.
Bear came and ate one and then there were two.

Two red strawberries, sitting in the sun.
Bear came and ate one and then there was one.

One red strawberry, left all alone.
Bear came and ate it and then there were none.

With Five Red Strawberries felt board rhyme your kid will learn and practice counting.
We use hand puppet bear to be more interesting and love when he comes and loudly eat strawberries one by one.

Share with us felt board stories and rhymes that you love to play.
